Simple science activities for Toddlers and Pre-schoolers

The Department of Education Helping Your Child Learn series of booklets suggests simple activities for incorporating science learning into your child’s everyday routine. Some suggestions include:

  • Going for a science walk around the neighbhorhood (take a magnifying glass and a journal)
  • Using bubbles to learn about surface tension
  • Predicting what floats or sinks in water (e.g. a piece of wood or a plastic cap)
  • Using gelatin to learn about friction

There are a few more activities for older elementary school children.
