New York Times releases its 2010 annual list of best illustrated children’s books

I love the end of the year! It’s the festive season. You get to catch up with family and friends, and you can shop without feeling too guilty. 🙂 Most of all, I love the “best of” lists that come out at the end of the year. From books to film to gadgets, all of a sudden everybody’s putting out the most awesome guides to culture, gifts, and important events that sometimes pass us right by in the hustle and bustle of everyday living.

One of my favorite of these is the list of best children’s books that come out this time of year. Here at DestinyBaby.com, we’ve talked a lot about why picture books are critical to literacy — they are the perfect combination of symbolism, representation and interaction so important to help new readers begin to become truly literate. One of the best of these top children’s books lists is put out by the New York Times, which focuses on illustrated children’s books (our favorite!) has been published since 1952.

Scan though those lists and you have a guide to building the perfect preschool library!

This year is no exception with ten terrific books that range in topics from discovering shadows to garbage barges, subways to buses, seasons and love. Except for two of the books mentioned, most of these titles are new to me and it’s a pleasure to learn about new beautifully illustrated books.

See the full article on the New York Times website. Below you can find direct links to Amazon where you can find more reviews from parents and children who have read and enjoyed these books. In my experience, Amazon always has the lowest price for books so follow the links to check out your new favorite illustrated book and save!

I saw your article profile on ezinearticles and thought I would pop over. My kids are both almost out of college. So fun reading books to them when they were young.

Blessings,

Mark

Thank you so much, Mark. Congratulations on having children in college. I look forward to that for my son one day. Blessings to you and yours as well! – Ava
