A little over a month ago, 2 year-old Destiny Baby began to run around the house yelling, “Skywakah! Skywakah!” It only took a few minutes and a flip through the cartoon cable channels to figure out he was saying, “Skywalker” and talking about the New Clone Wars cartoon based on the legendary franchise. Suddenly every long object in the house–an empty paper towel roll, his plastic toy bowling pins — is a potential light saber. At first, I wondered if I should restrict his viewing. Is this educational? Is he learning anything? However, as noted in earlier posts on activities for creative play time, your interaction with your child during play or regular activities is an awesome way for kids to learn. We have so much fun around the house in our imaginary space battles, and he has added new astronomy vocabulary — stars, planet, ship, and more — which I love being a closet sci-fi geek!
